9:20p
Hi
I recently tried to install the Video DownloadHelper add on but when I reopened the browser all of my bookmarks were gone. I've tried to Restore and Import but it says that it's "Unable to process the backup file."
I think it has something to do with the file type which for some reason is JSON instead of a firefox document.
Can anyone help me please? Thanks in advance.

8:38p Myspace
Everyone knows that site is buggy... BUT I can never get their calendar to work consistently:
An event on Friday will save (and show up on my calendar) but the ones I enter on other random days won't. There's no rhyme or reason to it.
Is it me, or the site? I need to be able to get this shit working for a friend of mine (and for my own dates).

9:18a FF3 issues
Hi hi!
I've read the past few posts in this community, but nothing seems to be the same problem that I'm having. On my work computer FF 3 was installed and since then there has been nothing but problems with the browser. Everything seems to be working fine, however, it keeps freezing and giving me a "Program Not Responding " message. It happens on every site I use, it just freezes for no reason, no matter how -er large the webpage that I'm viewing is. Sometimes it freezes when I open up a text box to respond to an email or LJ comment, and sometimes it freezes when I hover over and/or click a link. It just will not work.
I have no addons installed at the moment, not even Adblock, I tried a COMPLETE uninstall of all Mozilla programs from my computer (twice) and even then I still have the same issues. I'm really getting fed up with the freezing and not even the Mozilla forums helped me out.
So my questions are: Does anyone have this same problem as I do? Have any of you been able to resolve this problem?
And, does anyone know where I can download and older version of FF from*? I'm really desperate at the moment.
*I've tried searching for it, but everything brings me to a FF3 download.
ETA: I should have added that I also tried creating a new profile as well when I did the uninstall. Sorry! XD

10:25a Marlene's hot!
Whoah.
I had to go down and get coffee just now. I forced myself to make the first few phone calls and then it was a breeze -- and then my contact manager went down and I was without names and phone numbers. Okay then.
So, I went downstairs to get coffee because Matt's there and because the coffee's stronger down there and because Matt's there and I didn't see him but Dave was running the register.
Then I am making my coffee - read as: putting the cap on the cup - and I see Dave looking at me and then he disappears. I mean, he literally disappears back into the kitchen and doesn't come back out. If he'd waited, oh, 10 seconds longer he would have been able to check me out. Maybe he thought I was going to leave a couple of dollars and go. Matt's nowhere to be seen.
So, I'm standing there. And standing. And standing. And Eric sees me and waves, but I think he doesn't know how to do the register. And in the mirror I can see Dave working back there.* And I'm thinking, "ummm?" So I stand and wait and close my eyes because, well, I'm ready for a nap.
And then I hear Matt's voice from way back in the kitchen and he's saying something but then I hear "Marlene's hot!" and of course my eyes fly wide open at that and he's watching for my reaction and then he's laughing his ass off and coming forward with a cart.
Then he checked me out at the register and explained that he said it was hot and he saw me standing there and so he said "Marlene's hot!" and I said "you can say that any time!" Then he asked if I had ones. I said no and then he asked if I was coming back for lunch, as if to just charge me later for the coffee, but he gave me my change anyway.
Then I said that I was coming back for lunch because I'd made my lunch for this entire week and forgot it and how I was going to have to put it all in the freezer. He laughed at that and I said that the quiche lorraine sounds really good. He said that Dave was making it and that it had bacon and onions and cheddar in it. And I said cheddar? And he explained that Bob thought the people liked cheddar better than swiss. And then he said he's not a big fan of swiss.
So I said to him that American swiss was stronger but that if you get a Swiss swiss cheese like Jarlsberg [Marlene sez: oops, it's Norwegian] it will not be as strong -- and he said "ooooh, Jarlsberg" like it was all fancy -- it was funny. So then he follows me out saying that they don't have pastrami either and we walked down the hallway together because he decided at that point he was going to fix the posted menus. I like how he usually comes up with something to do out in front when I'm there.
And we talked about the turkey sandwiches they were going to offer instead of pastrami and how probably only two people were going to get one "right Tony?" he said to some guy walking town the hallway (who didn't turn around). And then after he fixed the second one he said that he really didn't want to be there today, that he'd rather stick pens in his eyes and mimed that -- and I laughed and he headed back and I headed for the elevator.
Well, huh!
---- * And of course I'm thinking that Dave left so Matt could come out. But that's just girl-think.

8:49a Grateful
This morning, I am grateful for:
- having a list to call this morning, although I'm going to have to force myself out of my comfort zone to work it - coffee. I'm falling asleep. I've also been drinking water, too. - the a/c is working in the building, thank god
- that I got through last night's class, tired as I was - being ahead of the game this month - the book my coworker Meredith brought in for me this morning
- discovering the typo on my (new) business cards yesterday - the fan from the attic - pencils
- hope - eletricity and indoor plumbing

8:03a Coffee is my friend
Slept in this morning. Had to. Got up at 6:30am. Dad brought down a fan from the attic last night. I positioned it up on a bureau and set it to blow down on the bed. It was heaven. I think it was near to one of the best nights I've spent in that bed. India spent good chunks of the night racing around and banging into things, but she settled down about 5am when my alarm went off. So, yes, I had to leave the incredibly comfortable cat sleeping in the bed while I got out of it. NOT fair. She didn't even come into the bathroom this morning to love on me after my shower. Huh.
I'm still half-awake. Still just a few sips into my first cup of coffee.
Saw Matt his morning. Said his vacation was terrific and that his chin was purple until it really started fading on Monday. Said it was kind of depressing to come back to work and see that "oh, this is my life"... that was funny. Have a marvelous day, he said as he handed me my change. Yeah, he was none too psyched about being back.
And then I was leaving and he was opening up the wall to the seating area and I turned around and said "you can't let those chairs out too early, they might revolt on you, you have to let them calm down" and he laughed.
Then I was about to leave and suddenly the room was empty. And instead of going into the back, he started talking out of the blue about how on Sunday he was at the Cape and the weather forecast was miserable (and at that point he listed out a whole string of adjectives for miserable weather) and he said that about 11am it cleared up and it was a perfect day. And then he had to go.
I'm REALLY tired. No, really. I feel like I could sleep another day. Perhaps it's just my call reluctance talking. We have a call blitz today.

4:15a My Freespire review
So, I decided to check out Freespire today. It's the community maintained offspring of Linspire. Built off of Ubuntu Fiesty and so has a Debian base. It comes with most necessary propiertary codecs/drivers/software or has easy access to it through it's CNR plugin. All legal and free for you. It has thousands of packages but I think it's limited comared to Ubuntu's repository even if Freespire uses some of the backports. It's easy you can search for it browse through selections of software. One click and it downloads and installs. CNR is working on crossing over Debian, Ubuntu, *spire, Linux Mint, Open Suse and Fedora. This is a good way to unify distros. It even allows you to purchase commercial software.
Freespire comes with KDE 3.5.6 as the desktop environment which is similar to Windows Explorer. I really like the default theme and icon set. Firefox 2.0.0.6 which I soon after updated to 3 along with the usual plugins. It's got some special software such as Lsongs and many others are customized for *spire. Haven't noticed too many differences. I have a few programs that I like to use.
The install only took about 15 minutes before it was ready to use, including startup and a few quick settings such as date, time, resolution, language, network all of which were correct except resolution. It was simple and easy. Looked good, but didn't allow me to encrypt or have a separate /home partiton or anything other than / so I manually edited fstab right after logging in. It only allowed me to choose which filesystem I wanted. Normally I go with Ext3 but I decided to try ReiserFS this time.
I began using Lsong and it was okay. It took a long time to load my music library as I've about ~112GB and doesn't have a Last.fm plugin so I decided to use CNR to install Amarok. I installed a bunch of other programs such as Azureus, Wine, Skype, Frozen-Bubble, Pingus, Audacity and Beryl. Beryl doesn't work for some reason and I don't feel like trying to get it to, the effects/features that KDE has are all I need. Castpodder isn't avaible and neither is the newest version of Firefox you have to go to Mozilla.org for that. Couldn't get Kripper either. Maybe from source. I could always use K3b to rip CDs.
I would say this is good for novices and people migrating from Windows. It's good all you really need, looks good and it's easy and simple to use. For a more advanced user or someone with prior GNU/Linux experience I wouldn't recommend using this as a main OS but I'd go with Debian instead. I'm probably going to boot back into Ubuntu soon even though the KDE interface is nice. X-posted

4:02p Book recommendations
Hi everyone, I would like to ask for book recommendations covering topics such as partial least squares, principal component regression, ridge regression etc? I'm particularly interested in the statistical properties of the estimators, not just how to apply the technique. With that said, I'm interested only in the basics so I do not need an overtly mathematical treatment. Appreciate your recommendations. Thanks!

9:14p FF3 and Gmail (also Release Notes)
I've got a problem I haven't seen any help for. (If I missed it, I'd appreciate where. :) )Since I installed FF 3 last night, Gmail can't load in standard mode. All I get is a progress bar showing roughly 99% complete, and a link at the bottom to switch to basic html mode. If I switch to basic html, it works fine. I've tried searching the release notes & help sections of the site, but they won't work now, either. I tried disabling my AV and Firewall, in case they were interfering, but that didn't help.
Details: HP laptop, WinXP SP3. Firefox 3.0 w/ FireFTP 0.99.2, Greasemonkey 0.8.20080609.0 (with LJ Thread Unfolder & LJ New Comments), LinkAlert 0.8.2.1, NoScript 1.7.6 (w/ Mozilla.com & Mozilla.org whitelisted), and Tab Mix Plus 0.3.6.1.080416.
Any advice would be much appreciated. :)

8:37p For everything there is a price...
Remember all that fun I had last Friday, shooting off fireworks?
Remember how I said I felt "spent" aftera ll that? Well, it turns out there was a reason for that.
Let me just go over one part of the experience again... I launched upwards of 30 mortar shells, and lit many a fountain of sparks, each time kneeling or squatting down and then immediately jumping up and running away the instant the fuse showed any life (and yes, there were a few false-starts).
Think about that for a second.
And while you're thinking about that, remember that I haven't really been working out for a very long while.
So I basically did about two hours of "squats" with no warm-up. This had the expected effect, of course, which kicked in about the middle of Saturday... sore muscles.
Let me clarify.
My thighs were SCREAMING in pain. Walking was not an option Saturday night, and was difficult all day Sunday. It wasn't until I woke up Monday morning that I could walk without hobbling like I was a 90 year old man. Even now the muscles are still sore when I walk down inclines, or up stairs, or try to squat down... but at least normal walking on flat surfaces is pain-free again. It's the little things :-)
So I paid for my euphoria and fun by being forced to stay in, practically bed ridden, for the rest of the weekend.
And honestly, I wouldn't have changed a thing. :-) It was SO worth it!
(I really do need to go back to working out, though)

9:32p Quilting progress
Okay, in this week's class we learned a "tornado" style way to make our own quilt binding, bias tape, bias binding, whatever you want to call it. Pretty good trick and it wasted zero cloth. Very cool.
She also showed us how to do "casings" - those are the pockets you'd slip a rod through to hang the quilt.
And she showed us how to sew on the binding. Fancy trick, that.
Homework is to finish quilting the thing. She showed me a few tips to make it easier. My two classmates wimped out and sewed straight lines. No, I took the hard road and didn't realize it. LOL It's all good.
Next week, we sew on practice binding tape onto our samplers. We sew on practice casings. I'm feeling pretty good about it.
This quilt will be done in two weeks. Most awesome.
Plus, they really liked it. I'm psyched. I'm also bone-ass tired. That's weird. My ass is not particularly bony. Not bony at all, in fact. Then again, who wants a bony ass? Unless you're a zombie. Maybe that'd be good. *facepalm* What am I saying?

2:31p
Sunday Betsy got dreads put in. I'll let her post about the experience (and perhaps show pictures?), but suffice to say, they are awesome.
The cost of the work was partially covered through trade - in exchange for work, we offered to cook dinner for lishd and gorthok. I went a bit overboard, but the meal was totally awesome:Course 1: Proscuitto-wrapped melon with cilantro and lime glaze
Course 2: Soupa Avgolemeno (lemon-rice soup) with fresh oregano from our garden
Course 3: Pan-seared scallops with mint pesto, served on watercress (mint also from our garden)
Course 4: Leg of lamb with green garlic and rosemary crust, roasted zucchini, bread and romesco sauce
Course 5: (Betsy's dish) Gingered summer fruit bread pudding with vanilla ice cream Maybe the best meal I've ever made? I was quite proud of it, and everyone seemed really happy with it. It's rare that I get to go all-out on a meal like that - anyone else have something they want to barter services for food on?
Saturday Participated in a Microsoft user experience trial for a new game coming out. Can't say any more about it than that. Overall, though, it was a fun experience, and if you have some free time (and want some MS software/products as compensation), keep your eyes open for things like that. The group was Betsy, Hillary, Matthew and I.
Afterwards, the four of us joined Cory back at their house for some pizza, Wii Fit and Rock Band. Good times.
Friday Fourth of July! Sausages, bocce tournament, beers, fireworks, friends, sunshine, good times.
Thursday The plan was to get some pizza and go to the drive-in movies with Corey, Melinda and a friend who is currently living in Poland (and her Polish fiancee). However, the Poles got stuck down in Seattle while we were all up in Mill Creek, and since Melinda was sleepy and Betsy had to work early in the morning, the plans changed to tacos and renting a movie. Still a lot of fun, but we need to find a time to go to the drive-in before the end of the summer.
